Install House

INSTALL HOUSE

We played up the idea of the bed as a little building - when in bed you reach through the window to use the shelf space behind and bring the object into your nest.

The multiplicity of uses facilitated by the floorplan, its central site in the heart of the city and the fact that the commission sprang from an artistic impetus ensures that this 200-year old building is more equipped for life in the 21st century than many contemporary buildings.

This project is about the act of improvising with reality. It is about use and re-use, found objects, recycled materials and maintaining the building fabric while working on site with local skills whose abilities pushed the scheme forward. We set out to honour this space while exercising an inventive economy.
